What will I be doing in this course?

The Business services course is a vocational education course with a mandatory 70 hours of work placement. it is a 2-unit Board Developed course with a National and HSC qualification.

This course is suited to individuals interested in a variety of junior administrative positions who perform a range of tasks using practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge.




The Preliminary and HSC course has 14 competencies. Students have to demonstrate competency in:

  • communicating electronically
  • keyboarding speed and accuracy
  • producing simple word processing documents
  • using business technology
  • delivering a service to customers
  • processing and maintaining workplace information
  • organising and completing daily workplace activities
  • preparing and processing financial documents
  • creating and using spreadsheets
  • handling mail.


What should I be able to do at the end of the course?

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as:  administrative assistants, clerical workers, data entry operators, information desk clerks, receptionists. With further study students could gain a Certificate III or Certificate IV in Business Services.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will consist of a range of written tasks, knowledge tests, questioning, observation and student demonstrations.
